There is no denying that I love to make my own background papers. If you look back through my posts they are everywhere. Even back as far as the card that won Stamping Royalty in Papercrafts Magazine (2010) .
Lately I have been stalking Tim Holtz. I find him refreshing... and remember him as a young artist on the Carol Duval program. While I have played with Distress inks a lot, I never really embraced the collage/distress/steam punk style. Recently I ventured out of my neat and tidy “box” to make a few Vintage looking cards. Now I’m hooked!
The problem is that I only own one Stampers Anonymous set. I really like all of the cards with the paper dolls. They are so much fun! Alas, no stores around here carry the materials I need and I’m too impatient to wait for mail order.
Great-great Grandfather |
Then a lightbulb went off! I have just inherited 125+ years of family records and photos. I’m talking back to the Civil war and before. Why not photograph some of those beautiful portraits and use them!
So I did.
This is my Grandmother, Dulcina Rose. She was number 11 of 13 children. Quite the fashion plate! I dove into my enormous collection of stamps to try and find some that would work for background. All oldies but goodies except the watch. That is the Distinguished Stampers Anonymous set. Postmark and butterfly are from Postmarks and "treasure"sentiment from the Signature Series, both PTI stamps. The flourish is from Baroque motif and the text block from Natural Beauty, both Stampin'UP
The background is multimedia paper. I used Wild Honey, Picked Raspberry and Antique linen Distress Ink as a base layer. I brushed on Distress inks next, Faded Jeans and a bit of Broken China through SSS Large Morrocan stencil. I finally added a bit of Vintage Photo, Brushed Corduroy, and Tea Dye. Images were stamped in Archival Black.
A few paper flowers, Liquid Pearls and a tiny piece of paper trim from and old stash and she was all decked out.
Does anyone remember the girl in Mary Englebreit's art work? Doesn't she remind you of her?
I can't wait to make another one with my other Grandmother's 8th grade graduation photo!
Genealogy research is the best!
Susan
