September birthday #1

Welcome to my blog and the beginning of the busiest time of year around here.
September is beginning to look much like December! Birthdays aplenty and several events to keep me running.
Today’s card is for my youngest granddaughter.

I have to admit that a good deal of the pieces and parts were done, it just took some time to find the ones that were just right. The only thing I had to color was the mermaid. I used Copics on all the colored images. The background was made a while ago using Distress ink blending on Bristol paper. I used Post-it Notes to mask off to create light rays. The bubbles were hand-painted, now, I have stencils for doing both.

The treasure chest on the inside is what took the time! I had some leftover paper I had used for fencing and house siding so I cut it down a little and glued it to pattern pieces I drew to make a domed top chest. The dome top is separate and hinged in the back behind the trunk. The trunk section creates a pocket for a cash treasure.

Here the trunk is closed. I used the tops of a fence die cut to make the corner braces for the trunk and added nails with a black Multiliner pen.

The ribbon and slider are ancient. Both are from Stampin'UP back when I was a demo over 18 years ago! I threaded the ribbon on the slider and stitched it to itself so it was permanent. The ribbon is wrapped around the back of the trunk, and adhered to the back with glue. Then the ribbon can thread through the slider to close the trunk.
Here is the opened chest with the treasure peeking out. That sand on the bottom is actual beach sand from my last trip to Maine.
Now I'm glad I decided to keep it and not throw it away.

Materials:
Bristol paper, card stock, Lumber texture embossing folder, fence die with pointed pickets, ribbon, buckle or slider, coral dies (Sunny Studio Stamps)
Stamps: MY Favorite Things Stamps Mermazing (retired)
Gill Friends; Sunny Studio Stamps, Oceans of Joy
Distress Ink and Copic markers
Distress embossing glaze Uncharted Mariner (sentiments)

Now I have to leave paper construction and go back to deck construction!
Have a great weekend!
