I make them a little smaller so they fit in an A2 envelope. If you cut the box at 5x 8 1/2 you will be able to extend the tip element 5/8" above the box top. When the box folds you need to make sure it folds behind any elements extending beyond the sides. This takes just a bit of planning in the design stage.
Word to the wise; Always design with the envelope on hand to refer to for placements. Ask me hoe I know!😏
On the back I use a lighter color so that one can write a
message on it. I added a little of the spooky stuff just for fun as the gray panel was too plain for me.

HERE is a good tutorial on the basics of making the boxes. The ones on this site are a bit larger than mine and the front flap folds out for another surface to cover. I have taken to tucking mine inside the box and using the front of the box itself as a focal point. As you work with these you can tweak them to your taste.
