Dad's Birthday 83 or 4?

I made this card for my dad's birthday this week. His birthday and Mother's Day always come together.
I used and old retired SU set for it as well as some retired colors in the sky. I sponged So Saffron on first, then followed it with crushed curry and a touch of Melon Mambo.

The paper is Kraft, Whisper White and Basic Black. That maroon piece is a paint sample from a paint specialty store. It feels like and has the texture of flannel. Really cool.

                                               



Bookend Friends

Here is a card that uses one of my favorite techniques. I love to make my own background paper.

I own TONS of patterned paper. I use very little of it. Hummmm . . . .maybe it’s time to thin the stock.

This card uses all Papertrey Ink products unless otherwise stated.

Cardstock: Ocean Tides, Stampers Select White

Stamps: All Booked Up, Turning  a New Leaf

Ink: Tuxedo Black, Versa Mark, Ocean Tides, Brilliance

 

Dies/ Punches: Mat Stack 3, Limitless Layers, Modern Window and oval punches from SU

Crystals: Michael’s

Coloring medium: Copic markers

Other: Clear Embossing Powder

Technique: masking, sponging

Mask the Mat stack 3 shape. Stamp the leaves in Versa and emboss. Sponge the area around the mat and randomly

on the card front. Die cut the  circle with Limitless Labels. Cut a slightly larger circle, stamp image, color and adhere

to the inside of the card. Stamp and punch sentiment layers; attach to card with dimensionals. Add crystals.

Through the Trees

This is a very simple card to make.

Cut center oval with a Nestabilities Oval and emboss it.

Cut the next sized oval in white for the inside image.

Use Eclipse paper or a Post It to mask the moon area. Use 3 colors of blue and sponge around the moon. Begin with the lightest; blend out to the darkest. Stamp image over the sponged sky.

Line up the stamped oval with the front cut out. Attach the oval to the back panel.

Stamp the branch and sentiment on the front. Tie ribbon through the oval  around the front. 

Cardstock: Fine Linen, Stampers Select White

Stamp: Through the Trees, Out on a Limb

Ink: (Tuxedo Black) Tsukineko, (Enchanted Evening, Chamomile) PTI, (Bashful Blue, Night of Navy) SU

Pumpkin Night

‘T was the night for ghosts and goblins and ghouls,

For spooking and tricking and acting as fools.

  I answered a knock with a bag full of candy,   

And hoped the children had toothbrushes handy. 

Then I, with a handful of paper and ink,

sat with my punches to ponder and think,  

Of the horseman who rode, with out head, says the tale, 

Through the darkened forest, near a wooded vale. 

Who threw a pumpkin, on a moon filled night,

Giving ol’ Ichabod a terrible fright.

A pumpkin, of course, graces this card.

With punches and time, it’s really not hard.                                                 

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!                                                                                                                              So much for  poetry. I have not figured how to format the text on this blog stuff yet! Materials:  Cardstock - Not Quite Navy, Going Grey,So Saffron, Pumpkin Spice, Chocolate Chip, Mello Moss, /Creamy Caramel.                                                                  Orange was punched with the 2 smaller ovals from SU. They were sponged and assembled into a pumpkin shape. I used some scraps of moss and Chocolate to crumple under the pumpkin and to cut a stem. The moon is punched from So Saffron and sponged lightly with Apricot Appeal. White Craft was sponged to create the light around the moon as well as the highlights on the cloud. The shading is Apricot. The textured paper on the bottom is from crimping, scrunching and separating a layer of Creamy Caramel. The smooth side is glued and the remaining fuzzy side is what you see.

The new photopolymer stamps are really great to work with. The digital has both the digi images and the clear stamp sets.

Supplies are nearly identical to the previous post. A ribbon and button from my ancient stash from quilting days, and and an additional background from PTI, Tin Type.

Sleepy Bear Baby

I haven't made a baby card in forever. Thought I'd use my cute bear from KLM Digital Designs. Lots of Cuttlebug embossing and Nestablities. Image is colored with Copics and sponged with SU inks.

All papers, ink and image, Little Hellos,  Stampin'UP!   Sentiment, PTI, Heartfelt Words. Ribbon from Michael's $1 bin.  Background is sponged using a mega dauber, decorative scissors used to make stamp.

All Stampin'UP. I love to play with the background. This one is just Olive card stock sponged with olive ink with a touch of artichoke. Image colored with WC crayons and blender.

Sympathy Cards

                                                                                                                                           

These are my least favorite to make, but  a  growing  necessity at this time of my life.

 

Unfortunately, the need this time came for the death of an infant son of a young colleague. I just can't imagine the grief!  The are no cards in the stores in our area that really address this. Anything I came up with just fell short, also. Maybe, as depressing as it is, I should work on something digital that might work.     These cards are stamped using Stampin'UP  images, papers, and inks; organdy ribbon and MS leaf punch.

More Simple

A bit of a wonky picture, sorry. This is the same exact technique as the last post except that I did not cut the image. On this one I used some white Prima flowers and added a little blue ink to them so they would match the cup. There is a little bling in the center of each from Hero Arts.

Oldies but Goodies

I still love the old techniques best.

This is simply stamped and stamped off on either side. Then, using a torn post a note, I masked the bottom and sponged in a couple layers of ground. The sky is also sponged using saffron and rose.  The bottom paper is a paint sample but it is textured like suede. I can't remember where it came from. The base  color is saffron and is sponged in the rose very lightly. A little ribbon and it's done. I added a little bit of glaze pen over the tree in the foreground as I wanted to give it a bit more importance.

Goodbye warm weather

This is some departure from the fall inspired things I have been doing lately. I had this series of photos from my grandson's ocean adventure and decided to go outside my comfort zone and scrapbook them. I used all SU papers and the Inspired by Nature grasses. The bottom of the blue page is sponged with faux tearing technique to get the layered "water look". Then I really did tear it and slip in a torn and sponged piece of caramel. The grass is stamped in caramel and celery.

A New Challenge

Here is a challenge from KWERNERDesignblog 

that my daughter told  me about. She did a great challenge piece so I thought I would try it too. The colors are all SU: soft sky, celery, pumpkin and vanilla. What a great combination! This stamp is from one of my favorite Hostess sets, Garden Silhouettes. I used marker on the stamp then shaded areas with blender and ink. the image was clear embossed and then I sponged over the image with soft sky.

The background is scored then clear embossed with the same image. Ivory ribbon was lined with the markers using the celery and pumpkin.

I apologize for the dull picture. The clouds rolled in faster than I could get this done and I ran out of good light.

Boy, is this an oldie! I just wanted to share some of these before I send them off to some of the organizations I donate to. This card was so easy. All  I did was stamp the dragonfly from Wonderful Wings in black and used a sponge to dot in a few colors then I brushed on a little pearl-ex to make it shine. This was really a 5 minute card.
